    Permit to Purchase a Pistol 
    Handgun purchase permits shall be made with the police agency which has jurisdiction over your residence. 
    If purchasing a handgun from a private individual, a purchase permit can be obtained by
    bringing your valid Michigan drivers license into our police department, Monday-Thursday 9am-4pm

    CPL applications and instructions can be found on the Oakland County Clerk website.
    **We do not provide livescan for CPL applicants**

    Background Checks
    If you need a simple background clearance letter stating you have never been arrested by our
    department, please come in person with your valid photo I.D. and we will provide you with
    a letter stating the results of our search.

    Court Ordered PBT's
    City of South Lyon Residents: $2 Exact cash
    PBT's are only administered each day from 6:30am-7:30am and 6:30pm-7:30pm.

    We are taking pistol sales records and unused prescription medication.

    When you dial 911, your call is automatically routed to a central dispatch facility. Dispatch and prisoner lock-up services are provided through a contractual agreement with the City of Novi Police Department. This saves South Lyon officers many hours of travel time that would be required to lodge prisoners in the Oakland County Jail, which is located in Pontiac.
